Rahul Gandhi and Congress’s lies caught on the Mahadayi issue
03 May 2018
During the Karnataka election campaign, Rahul Gandhi was caught peddling absolute lies on the Mahadayi river issue. He said that “In the Mahadayi issue, I request PM Modi to invite the Chief Ministers of all the three states for a meeting to discuss & arrive at a solution. It’s a drinking water problem, so Mr. Modi must stop making excuses & solve the issue.”
It must be remembered that back in 2007, when Sonia Gandhi was the Congress President, she assured Goans by saying that “We are committed not to allow river water diversion.”
Even in January 2018, Congress spokesman and former union minister Ramakant Khalap said “Be it BJP's Yeddyurappa or Congress Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, they have no right to divert the water from the Mahadayi river basin to Malaprabha basin. We will not allow this to happen.”
Rahul Gandhi is simply trying to shift the blame from his party and is suggesting some fancy mechanisms of addressing the Mahadayi issue to the Prime Minister, when the Congress leaders themselves, including Sonia Gandhi have categorically said that the Goa Congress will not compromise or hold a dialogue on the issue.
It can be seen that he is caught in a situation where his party’s stand on the Mahadayi issue doesn’t favor Karnataka, and so he is trying to put the blame on someone else.
